Tara, I think Vermeer is my number one favourite. Escher has been an influence. I like artists like Luciano Ventrone and Rod Penner, and also artists like Will Wilson, Daniel Sprick, Mike Allred.. it's a very long list and in constant flux.
What kind of acrylic do you use...I have never seen such crisp detail yet blended values and colors as you create! Wow..what an inspiration! I also love Vermeer and have been trying out todays version of the camera obscure to improve my drawing skills. Drawing seems to call attention to all the tiny details that take you past realism!
That is an amazing and exquisite rendering Jason. I am simply stunned at your talent and choice of subject matter. I am forever looking forward to your next piece!
My paintings are about staging an alternate reality, the illusion of verisimilitude on the painted surface, filtered so that it expresses my unique vision.
Though my paintings may appear photoreal my goal is not to reproduce or document faithfully what I see one hundred percent, but also to create the illusion of depth and sense of presence not found in photographs.
Many of my paintings are about the relationship of light with reflective and transparent surfaces and my journey to understand those qualities and convey my sense of wonder and intrigue over them. In all of my paintings the subject matter is a springboard and a means to explore my ability to communicate something unique to the viewer. I use colours and composition intuitively with the intent of imbuing my paintings with emotion, mood and mystery. Throughout, I try to remain open to new ideas as the painting unfolds.

It's gorgeous, Jason! I love the subtle colors and the composition. You're canvases are getting bigger and bigger, too, I'd love to see it in person.
So cool, great composition!
This is so incredible!
I was wondering, who are the artists that you look up to, or those that possibly influence you?
Jason, the subtility of your colors and tonals is absolutely outstanding in this painting!!! Strong composition too. What a wonderful piece of art.

Thank you Doris. I use Liquitex heavy body acrylics, thinned with water. I also use an airbrush from time to time.
