The Paintings of Jason de Graaf

acrylic on panel 25 x 37"

About

Jason de Graaf: My paintings construct an alternate reality on panel and canvas, utilizing the optical illusion of hyper-accurate detail to express a deeply personal narrative. While the finished works may appear photorealistic, my objective is never mere replication. Instead, I manipulate depth, color, and composition to establish a psychological presence—a quiet reality that cannot be captured by a camera lens.Within these composed spaces, everyday objects serve as vessels of memory and physical stand-ins for individuals who have left an indelible mark on my life. I approach composition and palette intuitively, infusing each arrangement with an atmosphere of mood and mystery, while allowing the painting to organically dictate its own final direction as it unfolds.
